When I saw that there was a link to a site about rhinos getting killed I was worried because they are endangered. I clicked on the like and saw that they were selling a permit to kill rhinos. I think this is sad that people would do this to an animal that might go extinct. People should try to help it not hurt it, and the fact that they sold a hunting permit for money is crazy. A hole species is not worth $350,000. We need to leave them be and help the repopulate. Do you think this is crazy or do you think it is okay?

Kenya police spot escaped lion near highway
There were couple of escaped lions spotted a major highway in the capital Nairobi. It came after ten days after the breakout of at least four lions in a near wildlife park. They were spotted by people and the owner of the zoo, Mr. Udoto warned people not to engage the lions or they will pay. Thankfully, no one died and when the lions were all dealt with, but the police said that the lions were still out there. A search team is now trying to track the lions that escaped. In my opinion, I think that the police should just let the lions go free. Also, people are trying way too hard to track the lions. I wonder what they are going to do with the lions. What do you think?
CHICAGO BULS 4LYFE
My favorite basketball team is the legendary Chicago Bulls, but also they have many legends and one is from South Sudan Africa! Luol Deng is All-Star small forward playing in Chicago. No matter if he was out with an injury he still pumped the team and made the crowd get hyped. Luol is an only child with his parents he is currently 30 years old. He left the Chicago Bulls roster so now he currently plays for the Miami Heat. Luol is 6’9 and is a mini Lebron James. Who is your favorite African Player that plays in the NBA currently?
Black Rhinos are almost extinct because of hunters :(
The Dallas Safari Club allowed one hunter to hunt a species of black rhinos that are endangered. They put it up in auction and I thought that was annoying but it cost about 350,000 dollars. The club said they wanted to have between 250,000 and 1 million dollars from the auction and they got it. Someone sent a email to the club that each rhino you kill one of the members at your club will die. I think the club should respect that it is an endangered species and people don't want the black rhinos to become extinct. It is also really dangerous to bid on an endangered animal just to make money. Would you kill an animal just to make money?
BASKETBALL
I love the Oklahoma city thunder and one of my favorite players on it is Serge Ibaka. He is from Congo, Africa and he was born and raised there. He is 6 foot ten inches and is a really great center in the Nba. He also has 18 other siblings and he is the youngest. His mother died when he was very young and in his games he plays for his mom every game. He moved to france at the age of 17 to play basketball overseas then he played in the nba and did a very great job. Do you know any african basketball players?
Mountain Gorillas
The mountain gorilla is becoming closer and closer to distinction every second. In 2011, they decided that there are less than 900 mountain gorillas left in Africa. Now there is about 700 left in Africa. The mountain gorilla's habitat is close to human society, so when the humans visit, the gorillas have a chance to get human diseases and then they would die from the human diseases. Also humans hunt them and trade them for pets, then they die because they are not supposed to be contained, they are supposed to be in the wild, and to be happy. Humans also cut down the forest of their habitat and be forced to die. What would you do to keep the mountain gorillas alive?
No No No not today!
NBA Legend Dikembe Mutombo was born in the capital city of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo The Dikembe Mutombo Foundation is dedicated to improving the health, education and quality of life for the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where Dikembe grew up. The Foundation strives to accomplish this goal through an emphasis on primary health care and disease prevention. The promotion of health policy health research and increased access to health care education for the people of the Congo. The Biamba Marie Mutombo hospital is an attractive, modern facility which opened its doors to patients on December 4, 2007. It has about 150 beds and it is supported by a state of the art emergency room an intensive care unit, a pharmacy and a radiology department. There is no doubt that Dekimbe help start all of this. Whats your take on this?
lions
The creatures in Africa are the some of the most cutest things ever. The Lion is one of five big cats, until about 10,000 years ago the Lion was the most widespread land mammal. Lions in the wild live from 10 to 14 years in captivity they can live for up to 20 years. Lions usually live in grasslands or savannahs but they can also live in bush or forests. Would you save a baby lion if its pride left it? Lions usually live in prides of there can be up to 40 Lions in a pride. Another name for a Lion is Panthera leo.

Removing Nigeria's workers.
Nigeria has removed more than 20,000 non-existent workers from the government payroll following an audit, leading to savings of 2.29bn naira (£8.3m) from its monthly wage bill, the finance ministry has said.Corruption and mismanagement have long stunted development in Africa’s biggest economy and top oil producer, and are now exacerbating the impact of a sharp fall in global crude prices. The audit used biometric data and a bank verification number (BVN) to identify holders of bank accounts into which salaries were being paid. This showed the names of some civil servants receiving a salary did not correspond to the names linked to the bank accounts. In some cases individuals were also receiving salaries from multiple sources. What do you think about this was it a good or bad thing?
Horrible Killings In Somalia
More than a dozen people have been killed in Mogadishu after al-Shabaab gunmen forced their way into a hotel. And shot guards before government forces stopped the attack. The death count of civilians raised to 14 by saturday. The attackers had a smart plan to do their damage, it went like this. A suicide bomber rammed his car into SYL’S entrance and blew it up. Making room for the gunman to fight through the hotels guards at their first security barrier. The gunman after the battle had 4 deaths and did not make it through the hotels last barrier. At the scene 12 civilians died and two other died that night due to bad injuries. If you saw these attacks going on what would you do?
Mountain Gorillas
The mountain gorillas numbers are becoming smaller very fast. The areas in which mountain gorillas live in is very rich in biodiversity. So when humans come over to the areas in which gorillas live they run the risk of a mountain gorilla catching a human disease. In 2011 it has been decided that there are under 900 mountain gorillas left in Africa. The few mountain gorillas that are left live in these four national parks Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Volcanoes National Park, and Virunga National Park. In my opinion this problem cannot be ignored and we all need to do something about it. I want to know what more I can do to spread the word about this, do you?

Lions
In Africa there are many problems but I want to talk about the lion problem. The lion population in Africa is rapidly dropping due to people hunting them. Lions usually live in prides of there can be up to 40 Lions in a pride. Another name for a Lion is Panthera leo. The Lion is one of five big cats, until about 10,000 years ago the Lion was the most widespread land mammal. Some male Lions can exceed 550 Lions are a vulnerable species. Lions in the wild live from 10 to 14 years in captivity they can live for up to 20 years. Lions usually live in grasslands or savannahs but they can also live in bush or forests. Would you save a baby lion if its pride left it?
Mountain Gorillas
Grunting is good manners for gorillas because, it tells them that we are coming and in peace. Male Mountain Gorillas get silver gray hair on their backs. All the gorillas seem to know their place and act the way they are meant to. Gorillas always choose to sit with there really good friends like how we kind of do and also the young ones can never stop moving like how we did when we were smaller. Wrestling with each other helps the young ones especially the boys to be tough and see their strength and also to control their power. The boss gets very angry if anyone is out of line. Gorillas are immune to our type’s of sicknesses. It’s kind of funny how the gorillas close to our age like to show off and they always like to have show off battles. Gorillas face a lot of dangers like being poached. There are about less than 350 Mountain Gorillas left in the world. The International Conservation Efforts and dedicated local people are trying to save them. Are there similar things to humans and gorillas?
$350,000 Rhino Permit
An endangered black rhino was recently killed by a hunter that paid $350,000 in an auction to get a permit to kill it. The $350,000 from the auction, was used to help protect black rhinos, like they could have used the money to build preserves for them. First, I think that this is crazy. Second, they let a hunter kill an endangered specie of animal that they are trying to protect. Third, instead of killing an endangered animal, just let people donate money to help protect it. The auction took place at the Dallas Convention Center, and they got death threats. If I were working with the people that started the auction, I wouldn’t have allowed it to happen. I hope next time people try to raise money for the endangered black rhino, they won’t make the permit for sale. Would you be mad if someone sold a permit to kill an endangered species? http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/19/africa/namibia-rhino-hunt/
13 Year Old Boy Could Be Getting A College Scholarship?
You're probably thinking,"Wait a 13 year old boy could be getting a college scholarship, is it true?" Well it is definitely true, a boy named Richard Turere created a way to make peace with lions! To communicate and save other types of animals from dying. First Richard tried to put fires to try and scare the lions away, but that didn't work. Next he tried to make a scarecrow to trick the lions into thinking someone was there to stop them from killing the cows, but that didn't fool the lions. They would still come and eat the cows. Then one night Richard was walking into the cowshed with a torch and realized know lions in sight, he figured that moving light would scare lions away. So he put a light in seven community houses after that everyone found out, so it is being used all over Kenya. For that, this boy went to Brookhouse School to study there (it is the top school in Kenya) because of his invention. Next after being at Brookhouse for a couple of years he moved to the United States. What do you think he will do next?

Africa
The only source of water on africa are hand dug wells. It is a big problem that ALL THE WELLS ARE DRYING UP DUE TO THE LACK OF RAIN. Another main problem is that many animals are dieing. Last year 80% of their live stock. june 2006 23,000 were forced to flee their homes. in 2007 africa was at the greatest risk for global warming even tho Africa is one of the least greenhouse gas producing continents they are the ones in the most danger of climate change. most people in Africa live off 1$ a day and rely heavily on their livestock to survive. Would you help them?
Water in Africa
Water impacts the lives of Africans a huge amount. To be exact it impacts the lives of more than 300 million Africans. 75% of Africans rely on groundwater for their drinking water. Global warming is aggravating this situation a huge amount. It is even hard to get groundwater because only 15% of the water comes from groundwater. Some land zones are estimated to lose 50 metric tons of soil per year due to neglect. Many Africans would fight to just get water when we have all of the water in the world because we are surrounded by it. Do you agree with Africans getting little to no water, why or why not?
I think the gorillas in the video were really nice, and I liked when the woman grunted to make the gorillas know she is coming. I think that gorillas are nice, and cute! And also, gorillas can be up to 6ft tall! (Really tall aren’t they!) And their weight can be 300 to 425 pounds! And their lifespan can be up to 53 years in captivity. You can find Mountain Gorillas in dense forest, and rain forests. And they’re always vegetarian! In addition, few animals have sparked imagination of man as much as gorilla. I think gorillas have very low population, I think it is about 300! Their predators are leopards, crocodiles, and “HUMANS”! Can you believe humans are really bad to gorillas to be their predators? I think so!
A Dentist's Demise
On July 1st, 2015 Cecil the the lion was killed by a dentist named Walter Palmer. Palmer allegedly paid 50,000$ for the hunt which he thought was legal but in fact was illegal. He got a 3,000$ fine and one year of probation. Johnny Rodrigues, Head of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force says that "Cecil died a cruel death" He was hit by an arrow and ran away, only to be tracked and killed 40 hours later. The found out he had a GPS collar on and tried to destroy it. After killing Cecil, They skinned and decapitated it, the head has not been recovered. However after many rumors, his brother, Jericho, is still alive. Do you think Palmer's punishment was fair?
Hunting for Conservation
In Dallas, Texas, they have sold a permit to an anonymous stranger that aloud them to kill a black rhino. Many animal activist are threatening people and are hacking their websites. I personally think this is wrong, even if they are using the funds to help protect them.
These rhinos are endangered and are being hunted. I really hope they stop selling these permits, even if they make $350,000 of each permit. I think it is dumb of people to waste their money on something that is cruel and borderline illegal. These events are horrible, its almost as bad as killing the rhinos themselves. I really hope that people will do something about this and stop the slaughter of innocent animals. Would you kill these innocent beasts? Or would you waste $300,000 just kill an animal.

Mountain gorilla!
Mountain Gorillas
I think that the gorillas that she found were really cool. It was wicked when the gorillas were playing with each other, and fighting. In addition it was a riot when the gorilla pulled off the other one and it was yelling. I learned that they mix the plants they eat at the same time. I also learned that gorilla are close to extinction thus there are only about 350 left. They're going extinct due to the fact they're being poached. It was right on when the two gorilla were trying to show off. What would you do to try and stop the gorillas from dying off?
Blog Episode V: 100 Words and Beyond!
So it's time now to jog on over to Africa.
From the Middle East it will be pretty simple; just zip on through the Gaza Strip and we will arrive in Egypt in time to watch the sun set over the non-existent nose of the Sphinx. Before going though, it is always nice to know a little about where you are headed. I will say that I try to pay attention to the news as much as I can, but I am especially interested in stories that concern the region we are or will soon be studying. That is why this story about the Rhino hunt grabbed my attention last year. I do understand that the auction raised a ton of money that was slated to be used for protection and conservation of the remaining rhinos, but c'mon, really? There are so few of these magnificent beasts alive today. To me, shooting even one is a serious crime upon our collective conscience. But that's just my opinion. And it only covers one particular story. The great continent of Africa is home to so many of the world's amazing creatures, people and stories. Like the Mountain Gorilla (Just how freaked would you be between the seven and eight minute mark of this video??). It will be terrible when none remain. Or the recent passing of Nelson Mandela. What a great man! Heck, even a 13 year old from Kenya can make world headlines and earn himself a college scholarship. Help us all to peak our interests in this next adventure.
Your task? Simple. Learn more about any of these stories I have shared with you and give us your take. OR BETTER YET, search the web for a different story from Africa that is interesting to you, and share it with all of us here in a clever way.
Grading rules are as follows:
Titled, Spelling-Error-Free POSTS must show that you have researched and found something interesting about Africa (5 points) and of course...must contain
****100+ WORDS****
and a hyperlink and/or video (2 points) and end with a question (1 point). But wait...THAT ONLY ADDS UP TO 8 POINTS!!! What else do you need to do to get that elusive 10/10? Transition! See the Transition Sheet in the "About" tab of Classroom? Insert a minimum of TWO TRANSITIONS to make your writing more, shall we say...enjoyable to read!
.
Spelling-Error-Free COMMENTS must be the first or second comment made to a post and 75+ WORDS of course (5 points), and once again should clearly show that you have looked up information from the post and added it as part of your response (5 points).

The two religons
I think that the kids will attack the enemy's army and all of them will die and they could be free. If they ever meet i think they would argue about how they should change there religions. I think the Muslims and the Jews should just be friends. Also it shouldn't mater what the other person believes in. I think that they should come together and make a stronger army. Also i know that they have been threw a lot between the years so they should just put that all behind and forget about it. What would you do if you where them?
